Broken The Captive Series Prequel edition by Erica Stevens Leslie Mitchell Romance eBooks

This is what ive been waiting for. Although this series was pretty good there was always something missing. I would go through 2 books a day and not even pause when buying the next but this book took 2 days for me. Not because of the lenghth or lack of time but because of the content. This book seeped into my heart and my life. I have tears pouring now just thinking of atticus' pain. Ive read other reviews where people couldnt have sympathy for him but its because they didnt allow themselves to hear him. Something he had wanted throughout the words in his writing. He was waiting for someone to see just how bad off he had become someone to understand him and put him put of his misery. Out of the whole series this is my favorite book. It answered all the unaswered questioms about all of the characters. There was so much truth and raw emotion in what was meant to be a fantasy. It told of how someone can be drowning around there peers while nobody noticed. How you can walk aroumd faking your joy while you died on the inside. Im crying now and I tell you its rare that a book hits me this hard. I cant wait to learn of camille and im pretty sure I can see where she and aria become a big piece to this very beautiful puzzle. This author should look into writing more like this because its her calling. Everyone wants a happy ending but thats not real. This ending that felt so incomplete yet complete, that felt like it was missing his happy ever after was beter than any ending ive ever read. (Kinda like the ending in dear john lby nicolas sparks) it made me sit and cry and feel sorry for a man that had done so much wrong because he was wronged. It also hits home when you realize just how close he was to doing the same injustice to braith as his father had done to him. How close he was to destroying braith through arianna and starting the cycle all over again. It gives me chills. Read this book you wont regret it. I promise. Open your heart for what this is, atticus' story. Let him tell it. Keep the judgements from the previous books away and you wont regret the roller coaster this takes you on.

Broken The Captive Series Prequel edition by Erica Stevens Leslie Mitchell Romance eBooks Reviews

I was somewhat reluctant to read this book initially because I couldn't imagine anything other than the cruel, sadistic, psychopath that I knew as Atticus. I have absolutely loved the other books in 'The Captive' series. By far, Aria and Braith are one of my all-time favorite couples. As much as I loathed Atticus, I was worried that I would never be able to relate to him as a character and that his story would fall short in comparison to the other books in the series.

After reading this book, I can confidently say that isn't the case. I completely changed my view of Atticus and came to see him as a man who loved deeply and was horribly wronged. Yes, he did some incredibly atrocious things, but he was made into a monster, not born one.

This was a beautiful and tragic story of love, betrayal and loss. It is the story of how Braith's father's life went from being filled with days spent blissfully in love, to centuries of despair and rage, focused only on vengeance. It is the story of an all-consuming love, the loss of which drove a great man to madness.

I smiled, I cried and I had my heart broken while reading this story. Yet, even though I knew there would never be a HEA, my curiosity compelled me to read on. I'm so glad I did. This story was fantastic and gave me a new perspective.
I really loved this story. Atticus has an intense story. It's the saddest situation involving any of these characters. I love the way Erica Stevens rights. These are very intense stories but fun and interesting too. There is some violence, and the love scenes are very brief with not much detail, but these are probably more intense than I would want my teenage daughter reading.
I think I may finish the series just to end on a happier note. This book was darker than the others. Left me feeling unsettled and sad.
I received Broken as an ARC for my honest review.
Having read all four previous books, I had a strong image of how or what Atticus was. When I heard Erica was publishing his story, I was curious to see how she would portray him. Once again, from the first page, I was kept enthralled by her extraordinary abilities in weaving her story. If you’ve read the series, you already know the outcome for Atticus, what possible explanation could there be one might ask.
The story begins very early in history when America was not even a thought as yet. We are introduced to Atticus and Merle in their mid-twenties living in a time when the world was yet ignorant of the fact that there was something bigger and scarier than humans. Atticus is the last surviving pure blood member of the most powerful line of vampires. His bloodline can be traced to the original vampire. While out riding, they come across two village female vampires in the woods and briefly exchange pleasantries. It’s been said, that we all have a destined path to follow and one step off the path can have far reaching repercussions.
In the blink of an eye, one heinous act by a power-hungry parent literally changed the course of man-kind. Lives were irrevocably broken, dreams were shattered and one man’s insanity did what no war had yet to accomplish, bring the human race to the brink of extinction. Wonderfully written in heart-breaking detail, the story grips you by the throat and doesn’t let go. There is an especially moving finale and if I may be so bold, it was the only way that this story could have received the needed closure.
If you thought you knew all of his deeds, guess again. What was in the prior books was just the tip of the ice-burg. Certain things that took place and might have left you wondering were answered in this book. Keep a book of tissues handy as I dare you to read this dry-eyed. I absolutely love that, even though you know he crossed the line so many times, there is a theme repeated throughout which will bring clarity to his actions. It may also show you the possibility of how it could have happened to other family members as some of the circumstances were almost parallel.
There may never be enough justification for what Atticus did during his extremely long life, but the reasoning becomes clear very early on and then we are witness to the outcome.
In all of us there resides a monster; you just have to know what to break to bring it forth. An absolute must read in this series.
